“Dear Ms. Farrell,The content of your presentation was engaging, informational and packed with relevant writing strategies and applications that the students can employ. The students seemed to particularly enjoy the “Writing about an Emotion” activity. The following day in class, they were talking incessantly about the characters they created and the stories they imagined. As an English teacher, I am constantly trying to hone in on the importance of editing and revision. The time that you spent researching, writing and revising your novel shocked my students and reinforced the teaching I am doing in the classroom. Not only did you present the joys of writing, but you also emphasized that good writing is work.
Sincerely,
Kellie Wheelan
7th Grade English Teacher
“While listening to your presentation I felt like I was actually back in the late 1800’s in the Silver Valley. I enjoyed every single part of your presentation…Sincerely, Hayley
“I’ve never looked at writing the way you showed me, it makes writing, now, a lot easier for me. Sincerely, Jake
“I never knew that mining could be so interesting…Sincerely, Jessy
“I had fun, I hope you did, too. Please, come back again…Sincerely, Ava
“I had no idea that you needed to research that much. Also, you informed us about the history in our own backyard. Sincerely, Joy
“Your speech was expecially interesting to me because I have a few relatives who were in the mining business, although they did not mine up in the Kellogg area. I loved looking at all the photographs and newspaper clippings. They were all so interesting! Your visual aids were fantastic with all the helmets and other gear. Thanks again, Shae
“I am so grateful you came to our class. I loved learning about mining in 1899. I never knew how hard it was, or how risky going into a mine was. Also, I never knew that miners only got paid $3.00 a day. After you came I got your book and started reading it. Sincerely, Zach
“You have taught me to think “outside the box” with the workshop you did with us. It taught me to be a better writer and to put more thought into my work. I used to just “flat-out” say all the feelings in my writing, but now I know how to describe them without saying them.
Sincerely, Christina
“I never knew how dangerous and hard working it could be down there in the mines. When I was telling all of my friends about what I had just learned, they asked me whom I had heard this from. I told them that I owed all of this knowledge to you! Thank you for coming and I hope other kids will get to hear you speak…Fondly, Sarah
